Statement from Congressman Josh Harder on Recent ICE Activity in Stockton
Congressman Josh Harder has sent an official letter to ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons demanding answers about alarming reports of mass detentions at the Stockton field office over the weekend.
“Constituents report that many of those detained have no criminal record and are long-time San Joaquin Valley residents. This was a seemingly intentional sweep to meet detention quotas, with no public safety goal.”
The letter requests a full accounting of ICE’s actions, including:
- Why residents who voluntarily appeared for compliance check-ins were detained without notice.
- Whether attorneys were denied access to clients.
- Details about any use of force or chemical spray on peaceful protesters.
- The location and status of detainees, including whether any U.S. citizens were arrested.
Harder emphasized:
“People in Stockton are now afraid to appear for required ICE appointments or to ask where a detained family member was taken. My constituents deserve clarity and accountability from the federal government.”
